Hi I'm Cyril😊 Adult beginner on the violin.
In this channel I share all things violin related.
I started the journey at the age of 25 using the wonderful world of internet. I dream of one day learning how to play the beloved Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, even if it takes one measure at a time🐢 Join me on this quest as I discover beautiful pieces along the way and share the joy (and sometimes pain) of playing this exquisitely beautiful intrument💜

Hi! How are you? Where have you been? We miss your progress videos! Still active with your violin? I heard you have a discord server? May I join?
I'm doing good, thanks for asking! Of course, you can join in the link here discord.com/invite/d7dbeBfG
It's very hard piece. Real talent 🎻
Thank you for this tutorial. You should be a teacher for Violin.❤❤
🎶 I’m in the mooood for loooooveeee🎶 🥹 I love this song.
what book are you in?
❤❤❤❤love it!!
❤❤ 😊 me top but i am getting better and enjoying scales now
Best video so far on fixing of strings ❤
Are you playing in any local community/university orchestras, Dots??? They'd LOVE to have you, I bet!
This is a disgrace and an offence to Tchaikovsky.
This is very bad, out of tune. No, this is not a result.
No, for you it is impossible. Sorry.
Do you teach?
Would love to hear a 2024 version of this 😍.
Thank you, I'd love to revisit this piece again😊
Where do you get music for this? Hillary Hahn plays these partitas. I would love to have these to work on learning.
Hi Joy, I'm playing from the Schott edition to study the unaccompanied works by Bach. My copy is pretty worn out since I've had for so long but I really like the fingering suggestions from this edition and can highly recommend it👍
I'm so impressed with your skill and learning from online resources! Did you ever do the Dotolins practice group? You are better than me and I've taken private lessons for years as an adult.
Hi Joy, thanks for commenting. Yes, you can join the group in the link here discord.com/invite/UCaDyTmh 👍
Thank you for sharing your experience
Yes1 this is the good way tp play an etude!!!Hard work but it will lead you to some beautiful!!!
Followed you back when the channel was MsPolkaDot 😃. You are such an inspiration to me: whenever I feel like I was about to quit, I remembered that this channel is still here to give motivation. Wish you all the best! Do you think you will study the Chaconne in the near future?
Hi, thanks so much for supporting the channel💜 To be honest, I don't any plans to tackle the Chaconne yet. Are you currently studying the piece?
@@ViolinDots No, for me, not even close 🥲. But with your current level, I believe you will definitely get the Chaconne performance-ready in just a few years.
It's a beautiful piece and definitely on my "to learn list" 😍 Will let you know once I've plucked out the courage study it.
hello! --I don't want to be "that guy", but did you know that the finger placement for "in tune" melodies is slightly different for playing "in tune" chords? If you search youtube for "pythagorean tuning violin" you will find the explanation. I recommend the youtubers "violinna" and "vioinmasterclass". -Although it takes a while to get used to these small adjustments, it really make a big difference. I am also self-taught and learned the Bminor sarabande recently, so I can really appreciate your efforts and improvements!
Sad someone ruined this video with annoying jazz, so loud that I couldnt follow the content of the speech. Leave it out please.
Hello! Amazing playing! I just found this after watching your Meditation de Thais video, I am truly inspired by your growth and in awe about your persistence. Keep up the great work and have fun practicing :)
Thank you so much!
what will it take to make you my friend online so that we can get to share between us some knowledge by just self training the violin art
I just came across this video. In under 2 years - Wow. I am an adult beginner coming up to 2 years since I started learning violin, and I am nowhere near this level. There was a comment asking about how much time did you practice to make this much progress?🎻
Thanks Larry! I have a Q&A video in the channel that explains how I approached learning for the first 3 years. I think it might answer your question.
Soo Bravo! Your progress is amazing. How long do you practice per day? How often you take a lesson? Face to face or online? Would like to know so much information from you.
Hi Yin, thanks for being interested in my learning journey. No, I've never taken private instruction. Over the years, I've just learned how to practice on my own using online resources. I wish I was more disciplined about it. But I tend to just practice pieces that I like. Sometimes, I will try some etudes - otherwise, my practice is mostly around pieces that I'm drawn to. May I ask the same about your own learning process, are you taking lessons at the moment?
Nicely played, well done.
Thank you!
Hi. Sounds very good. I am an adult learner too. Vibrato is really difficult. But you are very good at it. I notice you support the neck of the violin with your thumb only and your elbow is too far in towards your body. That creates tension. I am told that you swing in your elbow only when playing G or D strings, otherwise elbow should hang freely by gravity. Try supporting the neck of violin between your thumb and base of your first finger. That will help the movement of your hand along the finger board and keep the violin steady. There is a gap between the neck of violin and your first finger. Also, the palm of your left hand is facing towards the finger board. If you can keep your palm facing you and reach the notes on the strings by spreading your fingers and movement on the first joint (joint near the palm) instead of turning the palm towards finger board. I am only a beginner but I hope this might help and improve.
Thank you! I'm running a practice group over at discord if you'd like to join us. Link here ➡️ discord.gg/qbBSA4E8
@@ViolinDots Thank you. At the moment I am taking lessons from a teacher. There are so many ways to learn vibratos and different teachers teach differently and it gets all muddled up. Once I get used to current method, I will surely join.
Sure thing😊 just let me know whenever you're ready.
@@ViolinDots Good. Will do.
No cuz I’m 13 and playing this rn and I only been playing violin for six months but I swear I’m not a prodigy
i got thru your very good video and will attempt it today. my problem is the thumb grips with the grip of death and is painful for the next few days.. thanks
❤❤❤❤
The cheesy background music is unbearable - bailed out.
Great! 😊 Thanx!
I think also it is a good idea to start Mendelsohn Violin concerto, beginning with second movement. I a very sure you can play in a very good way!!!!
I think it's ok to leave out certain notes. I can't reach a tenth cuz my hands are too small so I just play octave or the top note. Or just play the top notes of the moving thirds.
Thank you so much! You've given me great ideas on how to approach 10ths. Are you also studying the Bruch?
@@ViolinDots I also wrecked my hands from playing violin. Who knew this was such a tough sport. For now I'm trying to rest it and not do vibrato and taking supplements. Maybe it will go back to normal. Seriously humans weren't meant to wiggle their fingers for hours on end lol. There's so much I hate about the violin IDK why I keep playing it lol
lol I share the same sentiments you have about how frustratingly difficult it is yet not wanting to give up. Thankfully my pinky can extend the 10th, though not without difficulty. I think it's gonna take awhile before it sticks. I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with hand strain. I hope it's nothing permanent🤞
@@ViolinDots it's getting better. Thanks. I actually just tried playing it again for the first time in a long time and I realize I can teach the tenths but the third with the 2 and 4 finger is a harder reach. I'd rather just leave the bottom note out lol.
You are a very good teacher and even more important and difficult: you are a very good teacher for yourselves. It is something which affort much discipline!
Congratulations on playing a very difficult piece. If I may ask, when you were just starting, what was your practice routine? Did you just follow the Violin Lab’s tutorial modules or did you create your own? How often and how long did you practice when you were just a beginner (your first 7months)? I’m just very curious that after just 7 months of playing you were already very good in your first video. Currently I’m an adult beginner trying to self study and I am truly inspired by your violin journey. More power to you and channel! 😊
Hi😊 thank you so much for your sweet comment💜 I made a video talking about the first 3 years of learning how play in the channel. If you have the time, please go and check it out as I think it will answer some of your questions. Best of luck in your violin studies. Video linked below👇 ruclips.net/video/psuMHJu9Ax8/видео.htmlsi=-cOwiO72K3y-pRx-
Thanks for sending the link! I've watched the video last night and the answers to all my previously sent questions are there.
You're welcome😊
Hi Cyril. what is this piece you are playing? Nice!
Thank You so much for this very informative approach in developing and practicing vibrato! I found it to be extremely helpful! Keep up the great work!
I think it's really good and advanced. However it's not perfect. The sound is not consistent etc. I think you have to go slower and stop when you make a mistake, or lose consistency. If you repeat mistakes they are hard to unlearn.
Your videos are inspirational for me. I can't wait tomorrow to start practicing 😁
Just watched this yesterday and it really helped! Shifting in the A string and then twice on the E string is much easier
Gratulations with the playing of this difficult piece! I think you have catched the intentions of Bach very well. You can be very proud of yourselves.
Can I just tell you something........first time I heard this piece from Bach it spelled exactly how my soul feels.....❤❤❤
Aww same here! His music is so timeless💜
vee brah toe
Beautiful! and also inspiring as a teen violinist who got a somewhat late start. Hope to play this soon! How long have you been playing now?
Hi Manuel, thanks for the sweet comment. I've been playing for about 8 and a half years now. How about you? Thanks😊
Wow, sounding wonderful already - you are really moving along with this piece!☀️🎻🎵
I wonder how much time you've put in for the first year. I'm also been trying to get around and learning violin for years, and can't play this well as you in one year, lol. I also play other instruments, but wish I could get really good at violin. Your enthusiasm is inspiring! cool channel.
I am glad to watch the curve of your progress. Why should not I take the same study materials as you do? This would overcome my issues of not concentrating on details, and be more patient. Reason: when I see you do so, I can simulate your steps.
R u kidding me I Looveeee my doubles!! They are honestly so satisfying!❤
